Music has been part of Lisa Muswagon's creative journey for many years with the hand drum, storytelling and songwriting.
As a solo recording artist, Lisa released Buffalo and Rabbits, a storytelling album that received national recognition through nominations at the Indigenous Music Awards and Canadian Folk Music Awards. The project brought together hand drum music and story, reflecting Lisa's approach to carrying teachings, imagination and live experience through song.
Her music continues to evolve through solo performances, hand-drum singing, storytelling and her work with The Resilience, alongside Hellnback.
Whether performing for an intimate gathering, a community event or a larger stage, Lisa brings together music and story in a way that is personal, engaging and grounded in connection.
Beadwork
Another way to tell stories. Lisa expresses her work through color, identity, memory, portraiture and contemporary Indigenous expression through carefully created beadwork and wearable art.
Each piece begins with an idea, image, feeling or story and is build bead by bead into something that can be work, displayed or carried forward.
Lisa's beadwork ranges from statement earrings to detailed portrait pieces that are one of a kind artistic creations and fashion focused work. Her practice continues to evolve alongside her music, storytelling and fashion work, creating opportunities for all of these mediums to connect.
Fashion
Fashion has been part of Lisa Muswagon's creative journey for many years.
Through Native Model Studio, Lisa helped create space for Indigenous models to build confidence, develop runway skill sand gain experience within the fashion industry. Her work extended beyond modelling itself, focusing on mentorship, presence, professionalism and helping emerging talent understand how to move and navigate through creative spaces with confidence.
Over the years, Lisa has worked across modelling, runway, fashion instruction, artist development and Indigenous creative production, building experience both in front the camera and behind the scenes.
Today she is returning to the Indigenous fashion scene with a broader perspective shaped by years of creative work, professional experience and education.
Her approach now brings together fashion, storytelling, leadership and artistic development. Creating spaces not only to model but to teach mentorship, teach and collaborate and help shape meaningful Indigenous fashion experiences.
Lisa's fashion work continues to evolve through runway, editorial projects, creative direction, workshops, modelling education and collaborations with designers, artists and communities.
Native Model Studio
Native Model Studio represents an important chapter in Lisa Muswagon's fashion journey.
Created to support Indigenous models in developing confidence, runway technique and professional skills, the studio became a space for learning, mentorship and creative growth.
Now, Lisa is bringing that experience forward with an expanded vision of combining years of hand on fashion experience with education, leadership and a deeper understanding of artist development.
The next chapter of Native Model Studio is rooted in preparing models not only for the runway but the realities of working within today's creative industries and respecting our First Nation communities.
Speaking, Education & Workshops
Lisa Muswagon is an Indigenous speaker, facilitator, educator, artist, creator and model mentor whose work connects history, lived experience, culture, confidence, and contemporary Indigenous representation.
Her speaking engagements create space for learning, reflecting, conversation, and personal growth. Drawing from her experience as an Indian Residential School educator and archival researcher, Lisa speaks about the history and ongoing impacts of the Indian Residential School system, intergenerational experiences, reconciliation, resilience, identity and the importance of listening and learning from Indigenous voices.
Lisa also brings a wealth of experience in Indigenous fashion and modelling into her workshops and presentations. Through her work with Native Model Studio and within the Indigenous fashion industry, she offers model training focused on confidence, runway presence, professionalism, self-expression, cultural pride, and preparing emerging models to enter creative spaces with confidence and purpose.
